Designed by Eero Saarinen "In any design problem, one should seek the solution in terms of the next largest thing," designer Eero Saarinen once said. "If the problem is a chair, then its solution must be found in the way it relates to the room." One glance at the ultra-modern Tulip Stool and you'll instantly think of a place in your home for it. Whether you put four of them around your kitchen table or in your home office, the Tulip Stool is a standout addition to any setting. THE DESIGN | FEATURES AT A GLANCE | DIMENSIONS | ORDER WITH CONFIDENCE The Design Eero Saarinen might be considered by some to be a purist when it came to his approach towards architecture and interior design. He sought the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution within an overall unity of design. To that end, he designed the Tulip Stool in 1957 in terms of setting, rather than a particular shape. The Tulip is a single-legged chair made from fiberglass-reinforced resin. With Tulip, Saarinen realized his ideal form of unity: "Every significant piece of furniture from the past has a holistic structure." Saarinen's Tulip Stool won the prestigious Museum of Modern Art Award in 1969, the Federal Award for Industrial Design in 1969 as well as the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1962. Each authentic Tulip Stool features the KnollStudio? logo and designer signature stamped into the base of the stool. The stool is available in black, white or platinum and the seat cushion is available in a wide variety of fabric and leather options. Additionally, the Tulip Stool is GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified?. DESIGN | OPTIONS | FEATURES | FAQs | SPECIFICATIONS | SHIPPING | WARRANTY The "evolution" of seating has finally produced a better way to sit - Swopper?! Swopper? is a revolutionary new concept in traditional seating! The ergonomic stool lets you move flexibly during a seated task. Swopper? allows you to tilt, sway, and bounce simultaneously. This natural flexion offers amazing health benefits that include: providing relief of back pain, improving posture and stabilization of the spine, strengthening and conditioning muscles of the back and abdomen. It makes sitting a fun, energizing, and healthy activity. Swopper? presents a unique alternative to traditional seating by providing a new approach to correct sitting postures, and makes sitting a fun and healthy activity. Back to top DESIGN Numerous chair companies have designed their chairs around the concept of total and complete static support, thinking that the more support the user has (and thus less motion), the better the seating device. Unfortunately, this only serves to perpetuate the problem, leading the user down the road to face more of the problems that a sedentary lifestyle has to offer. The "evolution" of seating has finally produced a better way to sit - Swopper?! Swopper? was developed by a German structural engineer and a world-class physiotherapist. This husband and wife team, Joseph and Dorle Glöckl, combined both of their unique talents to bring about the revolutionary Swopper?. After years of treating patients for spinal pain, caused mainly by their bad sitting habits at work (sitting statically with poor posture for long periods of time), Mrs. Glöckl realized that she needed to offer some new treatment and relief. Understanding the physiological needs of the spine, she and her husband set out to create a therapeutic, energizing, pain relieving "platform" for those people who were truly interested in solving their spinal problems. Swopper? utilizes all of the principles of the physio-ball in a stable, more adjustable format. The physio-ball is a mainstay within the physical therapy world. It allows the user to move randomly in multiple planes. This keeps the spinal musculature and joints healthy and active. However the physio-ball also brings with it many hidden risks. Many people are unable to sit on the physio ball due to clothing choices, work surface heights and space requirements. Swopper? effectively solves all of these problems by allowing users of all shapes and sizes to effectively institute healthy sitting habits (with the added benefits of versatility and stability). We call this "sitting in motion". Back to top OPTIONS We offer the Swopper in multiple models. Including the Swopper Standard Edition available in two base colors, anthracite and titanium, and in several attractive fabrics. Designed by Don Chadwick Don Chadwick, designer of the acclaimed Aeron Chair, brings over 30 years of experience and a mastery of materials to Knoll. The Chadwick Chair holds the distinction of being the first chair that bears his name. On his relationship with Knoll, marking a career milestone, he comments, "I consider Knoll to be at the highest level of contemporary design, and our collaboration is a notable one for me." With the Chadwick High Task Chair, he has proven himself to be as effective at bringing a product to market as creating the market itself. THE DESIGN | FEATURES AT A GLANCE | DIMENSIONS | ORDER WITH CONFIDENCE The Design Don Chadwick simplified the design of an office chair to include only necessary components. Combining his design experience and Knoll's design principles, the Chadwick High Task Chair boasts several extraordinary features. -Created from Don Chadwick's thorough comprehension of material properties, the Chadwick mesh is a woven material made out of Lycra, polyester, and elastic precisely heat molded into the frame. The result is energizing support that conforms to the user's shape and minimizes pressure points. -The Chadwick's mechanism is a spring loaded mechanism. It is this mechanism combined with mesh heat-molded at precise tension that creates the Chadwick's defining feel of Active Suspension?. The Active Suspension system provides buoyant support and the recline catches the user as a glove would a baseball. -There are only 6 bolts in the Chadwick, leaving virtually no room for anything to go wrong. The chair is not lever intensive because it is designed to adjust to the user, rather than the user adjust the chair. The final product provides resilient comfort, accommodating the user's unique shape while remaining wonderfully easy to operate.
